One of the problems with turning a pickup truck into a gasser hotrod is the lack of weight at the back. Weight over the rear axle gives you more traction when standing on the accelerator. One solution is to load up the bed with a half ton of hay or straw before going to the dragstrip. Firewood or scrap may also be used, but hay is preferred by most racers as it creates a trailing cloud behind the truck at speed, which makes for a dramatic spectacle and can confuse other drivers.
